B.C-projects is a grassroots initiative that aims to use music and information/communication technology to create greater awareness of social issues in the Jacmel community and encourage closer colloboration between community members. This initiative will embark on projects that necessitates greater interactions between the younger and older generation and identify available resources to improve access and effective utilization. While the initial focus will be on residents from the Jacmel community, the program will extend to other communities depending on the availability of resources.
The Jacmel Community
The Jacmel community is located in the Roseau Valley along the west coast of the island of St. Lucia. The Roseau Valley played an important role in the economic development of the island though the banana cultivating areas which are now slowly disappearing were once covered with sugarcane. From a distance the entire area looks captivating as tourists often stop at the designated viewing point along the main road to have a panoramic view of the area neighboring the famous Marigot bay. The small communities nicely located between the banana plantations are captured by the camera lenses and make their way to the other side of world and surfaces as visitors share photos and relate their vacation on the island with friends and family abroad.
